THE CLOSET OF HELEEN HULSMANN
Name a few of your favourite things:
No life without flowers, shoes, my family and friends.
Yourself in 3 words:
Curious, (too) perfectionist and tidy.
Could you tell us some more about ‘De Salon’?
‘De Salon’ grew organically. After the sale of my advertising agency I didn’t see use for my ‘coporate’ wardrobe, filled with designers like Joseph, Dries van Noten and DKNY anymore. The second hand stores back then didn’t accept these brands… I started selling my own pieces privately. I actually never stopped since. All the brands and items in ‘De Salon’s’ collection are an extension of my style and taste. The clients are attracted to this selection. Here at ‘De Salon’ we always take the time to help everybody find what they are looking. In order to really direct our full energy towards one person, we have made the decision that its only possible to visit ‘De Salon’ by appointment.
How do all the fashion gems find its way to the Salon?
Nowadays they find their own way. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.
Who or what is your source of inspiration?
I tend to find inspiration in other areas than fashion. Art, film, interior magazines etc.
You and fashion?
Pretty much.. 24/7
How do you define your style?
Crispy and clean.
In what way are you conscious about recycling or sustainable fashion?
Thats what its all about; finding new owners for the beautiful pieces that are not worn any longer, tucked away in wardrobes. Its great that these items enjoy a ‘second life’. Nowadays wearing secondhand is totally accepted, or even cool. With our new rental section at ‘De Salon’ we try to take this even a step further, party wear for 1 day..
What’s next/whats your ultimate dream?
A mini department store with only second hand pieces. Furniture, ceramics, fashion and books. Anybody in for that?
Who would you pass ‘The Closet of’ shoot on to?
