‘I regularly fall for quite masculine pieces, which is why I love this oversized double breasted coat.’

What role does fashion play in your life? What was your first step towards fashion?
Working as a stylist means that fashion is always on my mind, or maybe not fashion per se, but always keeping my eyes open for ideas and inspiration. My first step towards fashion was probably creating my own magazines and dressing up when I was young, but going to AMFI helped me to make real steps. After graduating I was involved with the launch of the first issue of Vogue NL. After the launch I was asked to work as a Fashion Assistant in the editorial team, which entailed assisting on many shoots for the first 1,5 year of Vogue NL. This prepared me to go out on my own and to start working as a stylist myself.

Do you have any exciting projects in the pipeline?
I am currently busy with SS16 shoots for Vogue NL. I am also preparing an exciting international project, but I cannot share any details about that just yet…

Who is your favourite supermodel?
If you’re talking supermodels, I love Stella Tennant, Guinevere von Seenus, Vivien Solari. I tend to love girls who have a strong presence and personality, who intrigue me in some way. I also love newer faces that have something special about them, such as Yana van Ginneken.

Is there anything you are obsessed with?
Lately I am obsessing over the latest collections by Hillier Bartley, who used to design MBMJ but now have their own fantastic line.

In what way would you describe your style? Do you collect anything in particular?
I guess my own style is quite simple: I very often wear jeans and I am always on flat shoes, as I am usually running around. However, I do love to buy special items from time to time, such as my crushed velvet jacket from Marques’Almeida or my pink rib oversized Margiela trousers. I do not really collect anything, but I have quite a lot of different flat shoes.

Bag by Céline
€900

‘I don’t wear a lot of color, so this bag would be a nice addition to many of my color-lacking outfits.’

In what way are you conscious about recycling or sustainable fashion?
I do not buy new things very often; I prefer to buy quality pieces and wear them for years. I also buy vintage pieces sometimes. I actually really love to buy pieces from older collections, because with the current fashion system, new collections are already copied by the high street before they are even in the shops. Buying something from an older collection sometimes even feels more relevant than buying the newest collections, and you are less tempted to make an impulsive buy that you will not like anymore a few months later.

Who or what is your source of inspiration? Who are you a big fan of?

It might be a cliché, but I think for me Grace Coddington is a stylist that I very much admire. She has such an incredible eye, and I love how her work always has some sort of sensibility. I am very excited that she has recently changed her position at Vogue, so that she has the freedom to do other projects as well. I can’t wait to see what more she will create and I admire that she is still so driven at her age.

Best advice ever given?
Believe in yourself and stay true to yourself.

If you could swap with someone’s closet for a day, who would it be?
I have never thought about that really… I guess someone with a very different lifestyle, like an Arabic princess or something. I would be wearing long beaded dresses and crown jewels for a day.
